Geschiedenis van de King Zephyr Special
King Zephyr Specials zijn gemaakt tussen 1937 en 1945. Door de tweede wereldoorlog liep de productie terug omdat de saxofoons die in deze periode gemaakt werden waren bestemd voor het leger.
De King Zephyr special zijn echt geweldig instrumenten, een van de allerbeste van het tijdperk, met een ongewoon vol karakter. Ze staan bekend om hun rijke , volle toon en goede intonatie. Ze zijn erg goed gebouwd met hele degelijke materialen en oog voor detail. Mocht je geinteresseerd zijn in hoe ze klinken, we hebben op dit moment een hele mooie king Zephyr Special alt saxofoon en een King Zephyr Special tenor in onze collectie. Specificaties
De nek
De Zephyr Special heeft een ‘double socket’ sterling silver nek. De nek bestaat feitelijk uit twee ringen van wat dikker metaal dat bedoeld was om lekkage te verminderen bij de verbinding tussen de hals en de body van de saxofoon.
Strapring
De strapring bestaat uit drie ringen. Handig voor wanneer je zelf wilt instellen hoe ver je je saxofoon van je lichaam wilt hebben hangen.
Parels
Prachtige parels waar je de sax aanraakt. Parels zijn een natuurproduct en behoorlijk moeilijk om mee te werken. Je kunt je wellicht wel voorstellen wat voor vakmanschap erbij komt kijken om de parels in deze vorm te krijgen zonder dat er stukken vanaf breken etc. Bij het spelen van de sax is dit geen nadeel, echter bij reparaties of een revisie is het belangrijk dat hier rekening mee wordt gehouden.
De parels zitten met kleine schroefjes bevestigd aan de kleppen.
Prachtige gravure
De king Zephyr specials staan bekend om hun prachtige fijne gravures. Niet alleen op de body van de sax maar ook op de kleppen. De lak van deze saxofoons is echter zeer kwetsbaar waardoor deze in de loop der tijd zal vervagen.

History of the King Zephyr Special
King Zephyr Specials were made between 1937 and 1945. Due to the Second World War, production declined because the saxophones made in this period were soly destined for the military.
King Zephyr special are really great instruments, one of the best of the era, with an unusually full character. They are known for their rich, full tone and good intonation. They are very well built with all quality materials and attention to detail.

The neck
The Zephyr Special has a double socket “sterling silver neck. The neck is actually two rings of thicker metal that was designed to reduce leakage at the connection between the neck and the body of the saxophone.
Strapring
The strap ring consists of three rings. Convenient if you want to adjust how close you want your saxophone to your body.
Parels
Beautiful pearls where you touch the sax. Pearls are a natural product and quite difficult to work with. You can probably imagine the skill involved in shaping the pearls in this form without breaking them. When playing the sax this is not a disadvantage, however, this has to be taken in consideration when repairing these horns.
Beautiful engraving
The king Zephyr specials are known for their beautiful delicate engravings. However, the lacquer of the saxophones is very vulnerable so it tends to fade in the course of time.
